Song of Zachary I

Blessed be the Master, the God of Israel
for he has beheld and made ransom for his people

and raised a horn of salvation for us
in the house of David his boy,

just as he said through the mouth
of his saints from of old, his prophets~

salvation from those who hate us
and from hands of those begrudged against us

creating compassion on behalf of our fathers
and in memory of his holy covenant,

the oath he swore to Abraham our father,
to keep us confident,
snatched from the hands of the hateful

to serve him religiously and justly
before him all our days.

As for you, boy, you will be called
prophet of Shaddai,

running before the Master
to prepare his way

to give knowledge of salvation
to his people by forgiveness of their sins

through the compassionate mercy of our God
in his beholding of us high from the east

enlightening those in darkness,
and seated in the shadow of death
to set straight our feet on the path of peace.
