Good words be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
because He has marked out and bought up His people,

and raised a bugle of salvation for us
in the clan of David his servant,

as He talked over and over about
through the mouths of saint for ages, his prophets.

How delivered from those despising us,
from hands of all who hate us,

He might achieve mercy, just as for our fathers,
mindful of his holy covenant,

the vow he shouldered for Abraam our father,
to grant deliverance from the hands of those who hate us,

unafraid and serving Him by devoted righteousness
in His presence all our days.

As for you, child, you will be called
prophet of the Most High,

going ahead of the Lord, in front to clear His way,
to bestow knowledge of salvation to His people
by forgiveness of their sins,

by the gut-wrenching mercy of our God
as he marked us out on rising high in the east,

to shine on those in darkness, sitting in the tent of death,
to direct our steps on the trail to peace.
