+ Friday of the Fourteenth Week in
Ordinary Time
As Pope Benedict meets with
President Obama today, a meeting that may be taking place even now in view of
the time difference between here and Rome, one wonders how Pope Benedict may
interpret today’s gospel. It seems especially fitting for the occasion as it
speaks of coming before "governors and kings" and the witness we are to give. In
this instance, Obama too, thinks of himself as seriously Christian, however much
some may disagree.
So let us hope that their
meeting may be a time when both will follow Jesus’ words about not worrying
about how they are to speak or what they may say but will be listening to what
our Father in heaven will speak through them. It can be a great moment for both
the Church and this Nation so let us keep this meeting of persons of influence
in our prayer.
