A NOTE FROM THE EDITORIAL COMMITTEE
The primary purpose of The Journal of the Lay Cistercians of Gethsemani Abbey is to offer a context to Lay Cistercian members and candidates for reflection and a forum within which to tell the stories of their spiritual journeys.
The on-line base is open to different forms of story telling through essays, personal prayers, poetry and other written narratives, as well through art or narratives presented on video.
In addition to offering a context for reflection by members, the Journal also presents an intimate view of the inner life of lay Cistercian. If a person wishes to know what Lay Cistercians do and think, the Journal paints an on-going portrait of the group.
On the other hand, the Journal is not a newsletter but an inquiry into the lay contemplative experience. (See the Archive link below to access current and previous newsletters.)
The Journal appears periodically when sufficient material has been submitted. An editorial committee screens submissions for relevance, thoughtfulness, good taste, correct spelling and grammar.
Photographs, videos, musical segments and other artwork are welcome. Authors of poetry articles should submit material in Word format. Monks of the Abbey are especially invited to submit their comments and reflections to the Journal.
The committee reviews the submissions, makes suggestions for corrections or changes, if needed, and attempts to present a balanced and well-composed on-line periodical. At the present time, Father Michael Casagram is the Journal’s mentor and advisor.
