Homily – Fr. Michael Casagram – 5/4/25

+(Intro) Today we celebrate two of the first Apostles, Philip and James. They were chosen to follow the Lord Jesus, ready to do whatever was asked of them. We too, have been called so let us be mindful of times when we fail to respond with the whole of our lives.

(After the gospel) Our gospel has Philip pleading with Jesus to show him and the other apostles the Father and that will be enough for them. Jesus calls them to a deeper vision, a vision of faith that will allow them to truly see.

As Sebastian Gomes points out in Give Us This Day “Faith is not something conditional, something to attain. Faith is a gift that brings forth a certain confidence born of the realization of how little we have to do, or can do, to be totally loved by God.”

Just as God the Father is right here in our own midst, it is only faith that allows us to truly see such deep and abiding love and to share it with our brothers and sisters so let us ask for this gift and be ever grateful for our calling like that of the Apostles.
