+(Intro) In our approach to living the Christian life, there is always the danger of saying yes to it, then retracting our commitment. So as we prepare to celebrate this Eucharist, let us be mindful of how we may limit God’s presence and work in our lives.
(After the gospel) We are the salt of the earth by reason of our Christian faith. But salt must not lose its taste lest it be thrown out and trampled underfoot. And we are the light of the world as Christians, a lamp for our day that is not to be put under a bushel basket but on a lampstand.
For some time now I have been asking myself whether there is more that I and we as a monastic community or as a Church should be doing if we are going to be that salt of the earth, a light for the world that we have been called to be.
We as a religious community, we want to attract new members, and the Church of today struggles to maintain and form its members. May we have the grace to give ourselves entirely to the life Christ shares with us.
