At the beginning of the Eucharist I said to those gathered that today’s feast day is that not only of Michael, Gabriel and Raphael but of all the angels. It is the feast of each one of us watched over by a guardian ange, who is constantly protecting us and showing us the path to God. So let us be sorry for those times we have failed to attend to the angel’s message, failed to carry out God’s plan of love for each and all of us.
(After the Gospel) +I SAW YOU UNDER THE FIG TREE 29 Sep. ’22
Jesus telling Nathanael that he saw him under a fig tree before Philip called him was a moment of awakening. At this moment he knows Jesus is the Son of God, the long awaited Messiah in Israel. To truly know Jesus is to know that you we are seen and fully known by him.
The angels are continually assisting us with this, helping us to recognize the sacredness of every moment of the day. They protect us from the evil one, the blindness of sin, having defeated the powers of sin so that we might live all day long in God’s presence. As the book of Revelation reminded us “now have the salvation and power come and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Anointed.”
Our faith continually opens our eyes to the real world in which we live, giving us a growing awareness that in Jesus we are all God’s beloved sons and daughters.
