+(Intro) Today we celebrate the Transfiguration of our Lord in the presence of Peter, John and James. They were invited to see who Jesus truly is so as to be prepared for what was to come in their own lives. Let us be mindful of failures to have faith in the face of trials and suffering.
(After the gospel) So real was this appearance of Jesus that Peter wants to set up three tents, one for Jesus, one for Moses and one for Elijah. There are moments in each of our lives when our Christian faith is confirmed, when we are given to see who Jesus truly is and the glory that we are called to share in. This may be a good day to recall these experiences so as to be prepared for whatever God may ask of us in the future.
None of us really knows what will unfold in the days, the weeks and months to come but if our hearts are set on Jesus, the great love he has shown us as the Son of God, we will be strengthened to endure whatever may come. This applies also to the ups and downs of our everyday lives. Jesus has entered fully into our human condition and seeks to empower us with his very own life-giving presence at every moment of the day. May we never lose sight of his ever caring presence.
