Reflection: Fr. Michael Casagram 7/3/26 – St Thomas

+(Intro) On this feast of St Thomas let us pray for our own r Br Thomas. This feast is also a call to deepen our faith reminded as we are in our first reading that we are fellow citizens with the holy ones, members of the household of God. So let us be mindful of any failures in our faith.

(After the gospel) The week after the twelve had first seen the Lord and Thomas was with them, Jesus stood in their midst again. He had hardly said “Peace be with you” when he turns to Thomas and tells him to put his finger here and see my hands, and to bring his hand and put it into his side.

Jesus wasn’t there when the disciples told Thomas “We have seen the Lord” yet Jesus knew exactly what took place. This is a wonderful reminder of how the Christ in whom we believe is always near at hand in each of our lives whatever may be the circumstances.

The instance in St Thomas’ life is a call to all of us to allow our faith to permeate all that we think, say or do. To do so, is to be numbered among the blessed who have not seen but believed. To celebrate this Eucharist together is one more opportunity to grow in just such an abiding faith.
