Reflection – Fr. Michael Casagram – 5/14/26 – “A Greater Love”

+(Intro) As was read from Cardinal Newman at Vigils this morning, today’s feast gives rise to a mix of feelings. St Matthias replaced Judas who had denied our Lord. Let us take a moment to reflect on times we sought self-interest rather than walking the path Jesus has shown us.

(After the gospel) As we just heard, Jesus calls us to remain in his love even as he remains in his Father’s love. We do this by our love for one another and in doing so we become his friends. This is all about God’s own initiative in our lives.

Jesus has chosen each of us here and wishes to reveal to us everything that He hears from the Father. So much of our life as Christians is about being good listeners, about hearing what God is saying each day in the depth of our hearts.

The Eucharist is a daily reminder of this divine initiative; the fact that Jesus is showing us a greater love than anyone has ever had toward us by laying down his life for us. So let us ponder this love today, to let it fill our relationships with him and one another.
