+(Intro) In our gospel this morning, Jesus asks us where our treasure is for there will be our hearts also. And he asks us what gives light to our lives so let’s take a moment to reflect on these questions and acknowledge our sins.
(After the gospel) Our first reading from the 2nd book of Kings is to get us, like the gospel, to ask ourselves whether we are ready to serve the living God or Baal, any false gods?. These questions of sacred scripture are as relevant today as they were in their own time.
We all know the danger of getting snagged into our own interests rather than those of God and of our neighbor. How then are we to keep our priorities clear, our preferences pleasing in God’s sight?
It is by allowing the Holy Spirit to pervade our lives. It is by allowing the love of Christ to touch the depths of our hearts that makes us truly Christian, faithful believers in the living God. And so we celebrate this Eucharist, this act of thanksgiving for a love that seeks to fill our hearts.
