+(Intro) In our first reading this morning we will hear of how the Lord has favored us and yet, as a chosen people, we fail in this relationship. So let us ask the Lord to free us from the darkness of error so as to stand in the bright light of truth.
(After the gospel) Our gospel is a clear call to faith. We all experience times in our lives when we find ourselves surrounded by storms, when our lives seem out of control, swamped by waves. Jesus seems asleep and to have no interest.
In prayer we can hear him telling us not to be terrified and to realize he is right there, right here in the midst of it all. With him in our focus, all the winds and waves of the sea grow calm. We have only to remember, never to forget how close he is to each and all of our lives.
Isn’t this what our celebration of the Eucharist keeps reminding us of each day as Jesus gives himself as our very food and drink. Here he assures us of his presence and of his desire to sustain us with his love.
